GREG LANIER APPOINTED ASSISTANT PROFESSOR OF NT | RTS has appointed Gregory R. Lanier the new assistant professor of New Testament at RTS Orlando beginning January 1, 2016. Lanier earned a B.S. in Computer Science with a minor in business admin. from UNC Chapel Hill, Morehead Scholar, Honors and Highest Distinction. He earned an M.Div. from RTS Charlotte, serving as a teaching assistant to Dr. John W. P. Oliver.
He is currently a Ph.D. candidate in New Testament at the University of Cambridge in the UK. His research is on the "Christology in the Gospel of Luke Through the Use of OT Metaphors." His plane crash landed
at the Somerset County Airport in Bedminster Township. Read more about his life here. | | Doug Domin (M.Div. '85) | Doug, formerly the church planter of a church in Concord, NH, for 19 years, was installed as the associate pastor at Peach Presbyterian Church in Cary, NC, on Aug. 30. | | Esaie Etienne (M.Div. '04) | Esaie is serving with MTW in Haiti.This summer they restored a four- room house for a family of eight in the church. They also examined the first group of ruling elders and deacon candidates in the ministry in Gonaives. Six were ordained as ruling
elders and two as deacons. A ceremony was organized. Also they had 60 youth at their first youth retreat. This year they had their largest turnout at VBS with over 400 and 20 prayed to receive Christ. They were assisted by a mission team from First Presbyterian
Church of Coral Springs, Fla. They are raising funds for a ministry center. Elections will occur in October and December and they ask for prayer for peace and security. | | Jake Hunt (M.Div. '07) | Jake was recently interviewed on Dr. Mike Kruger's 'Where Are They Now?' segment of his blog. Read the interview here. | | Justin Holcomb (MATS '97, MACT '97) | Justin's book God Made All of Me: A Book to Help Children Protect Their Bodies was released on Sept. 8. He says,
"It is a children's book (for 2-8 year olds) that starts from the fundamental truth that God created everything and applies that truth to kids and their bodies. It equips parents to talk with both boys and girls about their bodies and to help them understand
the difference between appropriate and inappropriate touches." | | Michael Knight (MABS '13) | ![]() Mike (far right) is serving with SIM in Namibia, Africa. He recently led 3 conferences: a young adult conference, the Word Alive conference at Namibia Evangelical Theological Seminary (NETS) where they are focusing on "Confronting Gener-Based Violence,"
and a spiritual life conference--all in August. He will now return to teaching the Old Testament Prophets course at NETS and then on to a mission trip going to different places around the country. '07) | Phil gives us some insight into the refugee crisis, as he says this summer, Greece was "unprepared to handle the hundreds of thousands of refugees, mostly Syrians, seeking asylum." They wondered how their small evangelical community in
Greece could assist in providing for the immediate needs of these sojourners. "Over 30 people representing various denominations, mission agencies, and organizations gathered one morning to address the situation in Athens and on several of the distant islands that are the first entry points."
A task force was selected to assimilate info/resources from each church and agency to formulate a coalition of laborers and facilities where refugees are given basic supplies, places to shower and refresh themselves, and to recharge cell phones.
They also hope to help meet the need for transportation to northern Greece.
"As our meeting concluded we joined our hearts and voices together asking God to glorify His name in us and through us as we seek to show hospitality to these strangers in our midst temporarily." | | Jolly Rimai (D.Min '05) | Jolly has been selected to be the director of the mission department in the council of churches in Northeast India with 7,584 Baptist churches and over 1.2 million baptized adult members. He is responsible for training mission leaders across Northeast
India and training missionaries whom they are sending out across the globe. He asks for prayer for this great responsibility God has entrusted to him. | | Jason Tippetts (M.Div. '11) | Jason returned to the pastorate after a leave of absence from his wife passing away in March. Perhaps some have walked through a similar journey. Listen to his sermon here as he shares that he drew from the Psalms during this process. He also encourages us to have those conversations about death with your family. He asks for continued prayer as he continues to adjust. | |
