TO BE A PASTOR OR PROFESSOR? READ DR. KRUGER'S BLOG
"Since I am a professor at a seminary, it is not unusual (indeed, it is very common) for students to come to me for advice about whether they should enter the pastorate or seek to be a professor.  While many of these students may have entered seminary with the intention of entering pastoral ministry, they have found themselves falling in love with a deep study of theology and the Bible.  And so, they think, perhaps the academic world is right for them." Continue the blog post here.

RTS IS CELEBRATING 50 YEARS!
This fall during the 2015-2016 academic year, RTS celebrates 50 years of God's faithful provision.

Erskine Wells was fond of telling the story of the beginning of RTS. "As Rev. Samuel C. Patterson, pastor of French Camp Presbyterian Church, explained his dream for a new seminary, Wells quickly dismissed the idea: 'Sam, you are a preacher. You live in an ivory tower, and you are not in touch with reality. I'm a layman, and I can tell you that it's just not practical.' Wells never forgot what followed: "Sam leaned back in his chair and asked, 'Erskine, how big is your God?' 'Well, Sam,' I responded, 'when do we start?'" For Erskine Wells, that moment was the beginning of Reformed Theological Seminary." (The First Forty Years, 2006).

Stay tuned for events happening this academic year.

Phil Luther (M.Div. '07)

Phil gives us some insight into the refugee crisis, as he says this summer, Greece was "unprepared to handle the hundreds of thousands of refugees, mostly Syrians, seeking asylum." They wondered how their small evangelical community in Greece could assist in providing for the immediate needs of these sojourners.

"Over 30 people representing various denominations, mission agencies, and organizations gathered one morning to address the situation in Athens and on several of the distant islands that are the first entry points."

A task force was selected to assimilate info/resources from each church and agency to formulate a coalition of laborers and facilities where refugees are given basic supplies, places to shower and refresh themselves, and to recharge cell phones.  They also hope to help meet the need for transportation to northern Greece.

"As our meeting concluded we joined our hearts and voices together asking God to glorify His name in us and through us as we seek to show hospitality to these strangers in our midst temporarily."

Passing of Frank Horton
1917-2016

Frank Horton (far right), one of the five founding fathers of RTS went home to be with the Lord on May 4, 2016. He served on the Board of Trustees as Secretary for 43 years.

He and his wife reared six children and served as role models and mentors to countless more.  He steadfastly believed and instilled in his children that "man's chief end is to glorify God and to enjoy Him forever".

Preceded in death by his wife of 64 years, Joyce Matthews Horton and daughter, Joyce Herring, he is survived by five children, 19 grandchildren and 31 great grandchildren.

In lieu of flowers, the family asks that memorial contributions be made to Reformed Theological Seminary. To read the full obituary click here.
