As such, it is a model for attentive and faithful biblical theology intended for students, scholars, pastors and lay people who wish to seriously engage the Scriptures." In July they hosted a medical team from Greenville, SC. "For the past three or four months, there has been an epidemic in Haiti called Chikungunya fever which is caused by mosquitoes," said Esaie. The medical team helped over 500 people during a 4-day clinic and 3 people prayed to receive Christ. His wife Natacha also came down with the fever. Although not completely recovered, she is doing better now.

The Gonaives children's home is in motion and they have paid for 51 acres of land. Funds are needed for clearing and fencing the land, which will be $40,000. REFORMATION DAY OCT 31

We call ourselves Reformed because RTS is rooted in the Protestant Reformation. In the 16th century, many believers protested against false teachings in the church and returned to the true gospel under the leadership of Reformers such as Martin Luther, Ulrich Zwingli, and John Calvin. The term "Reformed" was associated primarily with Calvin's work in the church of Geneva, but all Protestant Reformers held certain cardinal views in common.

Each year, on Oct. 31, the Reformers celebrate Martin Luther nailing his 95 grievances to the door of the castle church in 1517 in Germany.

Dr. Don Sweeting explains it here in one of his TAKE5 radio broadcasts titled "Reformation Unfinished." Don is the president of RTS/Orlando and the James Woodrow Hassell Professor of Church History. He explains the Reformation, the teachings of the Reformers, their education movements, changes in worship, and why the Reformation matters.  Read more about the Reformed traditionhere.

When the respect for moral conscience is gone, the debate involves into a power struggle," said McNulty. And after reading a passage from Ephesians, he goes on to say, "The faithful ministry of the Word will produce strong consciences among the hearers of the Word and promote godly character with their interactions with others."

Hebrews 13.3 says, 'Remember those who are in prison, as though in prison with them, and those who are mistreated, since you are also in the body.'

"The verse speaks of early Christians who were in prison for their faithful witness, and those who are not in prison but were 'being mistreated,' for following Jesus.

"What does it mean to “remember them”? The verse does not tell us. Read the entire blog here.

DR. KRUGER BLOGS ABOUT CONTROVERSIAL BOOK

"By now," Dr. Kruger notes, "most have probably heard the news splash about the forthcoming book by Simcha Jacobovici and Barrie Wilson, The Lost Gospel: Decoding the Sacred Text that Reveals Jesus’ Marriage to Mary Magdalene. If the number of emails in my inbox on this topic is any indication, then apparently the news has traveled fast.

"If the title of this new book sounds like The Da Vinci Code redivivus, then you would be right. Jacobovici and Wilson are not the first to claim Jesus was married to Mary Magdalene. They stand in a long line of conspiracy theorists who have claimed the same thing, including the recently debunked Gospel of Jesus’ Wife.

"Although I have not yet read this book, it seems that a few comments are in order to help prepare people for what is coming:

Rehab is no fun but it's what you have to do when you're a stroke survivor...and you soon figure out that rehab is something you'll be doing the rest of your life, so you better get used to it. As rehab progressed, I began again to pursue a call at a church. And now God has answered our prayer." The interim period will last six months. REPRINTED THIS SUMMER IN PAPERBACK
Dr. Mike McKelvey's book Moses, David and the High Kingship of Yahweh: A canonical Study of Book IV of the Psalter was reprinted this summer. Get a copy for yourself here. According to the description, "This book contends that Psalms 90-106 were purposely arranged as a rejoinder to the previous three books, in response to the rise and fall of Davidic kingship charted in Books I-III, and examines how Psalms 90-106 may have been purposely organized as a collection. The theological and thematic emphases that dominate the book are also considered, offering a holistic understanding for what has happened to Israel in the exile and why. In particular, this study focuses on the employment of the three key figures of Moses, King YHWH and David in Book IV." Dr. McKelvey is the assistant professor of Old Testament at RTS/Jackson.

STAFF PROFILE: ALICE HATHAWAY
As registrar and executive assistant for RTS Global, Alice has worked at RTS for 16+ years. She currently assists Steve Wallace, who has oversight of RTS Global and RTS New York City, and she registers all RTS students (Global & residential) for distance courses. She thinks she has the best job at RTS, since she gets to know so many students all over the institution, and loves encouraging them, building relationships with them, and praying for them.

She grew up in southern Illinois, where her dad was a coal miner and farmer (so she is truly a ‘coal miner’s daughter’). She attended Southern Illinois University before marrying Vaughn, now a retired pastor. They will soon celebrate their 50th anniversary. They have six children and 17 grandchildren, who live all over the country.

A favorite pastime is reading, and she is such an avid reader that she sometimes fears she has an addiction to books! A longtime pianist, she presently plays for two churches in Charlotte every Sunday (her own church, an OPC congregation, and an ARP church), as well as chapel services at RTS and other events.

Paul Bonney (RTS Global student)
Paul's daughter Cameron was mentioned in an article about post traumatic stress syndrome in the Wall Street Journal. This article shows some of the stressful times our students go through while they are attending seminary, caring for their family and in this case, pastoring a church. Click here to read the article titled "Hospitals Help Families Cope: The Psychological Toll of a Child's Illness."

READ REV. MIKE GLODO'S BLOG ON REF21
"Recently I was presented with a question about preaching," wrote Rev. Glodo. "Given that contemporary communication studies show that people learn better with a Q&A format, should we abandon the traditional form of the sermon? The stated premise behind the question was that the sermon form as we know it is a 'relic of the Reformation' for which there is no biblical sanction." Continue reading here. Read Part 2 here.

IS IT ARROGANT TO CLAIM TO KNOW GOD?
Read a recent blog by Dr. James Anderson here. "In a debate with Rabbi David Wolpe in 2008, the late Christopher Hitchens inveighed against Wolpe’s claim to have knowledge of God:

'By what right, rabbi, do you say that you know God better than they do, that your God is better than theirs, that you have an access that I can’t claim to have, to knowing not just that there is a God, but that you know his mind. You put it modestly, but it is a fantastically arrogant claim that you make — an incredibly immodest claim.'

"I was reminded of Hitchens’ objection, and similar ones in his exchanges with Douglas Wilson, when I saw the following tweet by proselytizing atheist Peter Boghossian (retweeted, presumably with approval, by Richard Dawkins):" Continue here.

NEW BOOK EDITED BY MICHAEL ALLEN AND JONATHAN LINEBAUGH
Dr. Michael Allen and Dr. Jonathan A. Linebaugh have edited Reformation Readings of Paul: Explorations in History and Exegesis (IVP Academic). The book is due in November 2015.

The description says, "Did the Protestant Reformers understand Paul correctly? Has the church today been unduly influenced by Reformation-era misreadings of the Pauline epistles?

"Have we understood the Reformers correctly? With that in mind, these essays seek to enable a more careful reading of the Reformers' exegesis of Pauline texts. Each chapter pairs a Reformer with a Pauline letter and then brings together a historical theologian and a biblical scholar to examine these Reformation-era readings of Paul."

You can preorder the book here. Dr. Allen is the associate professor of systematic and historical theology and dean of students at RTS/Orlando, and Dr. Linebaugh is associate professor of New Testament and dean of students at Knox Theological Seminary in Ft. Lauderdale, Fla.

NEW BOOK BY JOHN FRAME DUE THIS FALL
A History of Western Philosophy and Theology is "ripe fruit from John Frame’s 45 years of teaching," according to the description. "No similar historical survey offers the same invigorating blend of expositional clarity, critical insight, and biblical wisdom. The supplemental study questions, bibliographies, links to free audio lectures, quotes from influential thinkers, 20 appendices, and an indexed glossary make this an excellent main textbook choice for seminary and college-level courses. Frame combines a rare triple blend of big-picture thinking, levelheaded reflection, and biblical fidelity." The book is due out in November of 2015.
