JOHN REED MILLER LECTURES
RTS/JACKSON

Kevin DeYoung, senior pastor of University Reformed Church in East Lansing, Mich., and regular blogger and speaker for The Gospel Coalition, is the lecturer for the John Reed Miller Lectures at RTS/Jackson. The topic is "Preaching" and the public is welcome. DeYoung has a new book out titled Crazy Busy: A (Mercifully) Short Book About a (Really) Big Problem.

Lecture 1: Oct. 22 - 11:00 a.m. "How Can a Biblical Sermon Be So Boring? The Case for Veracity and Clarity in Preaching" with lunch and Q&A about Crazy Busy at noon.

Lecture 2: Oct. 23 - 10:00 a.m. "How Can a Biblical Sermon Be So Boring: The Case for Specificity, Authenticity and Ingenuity in Preaching."

AUTHOR EVENT AT RTS/ORLANDO
Join RTS/Orlando as they read The Current Read 2013 book choice, Bad Religion: How We Became a Nation of Heretics," by Ross Douthat. The author is a New York Times op-ed columnist and blogger and will lecture on campus Oct. 29 at 7:00 p.m. A book signing will follow. Click here to read more about this event.

NEW FACULTY IN JACKSON
Dr. Michael G. McKelvey, senior pastor of Crosspoint Church of Asheville, NC, has been appointed Old Testament professor at RTS/Jackson beginning January 1, 2014. McKelvey has a D.Phil. in Theology, and M.Div. from RTS, and a B.S. in Business Administration from Mississippi College. He has previously taught at RTS as a visiting lecturer since 2008. RTS CHANCELLOR TO PARTICIPATE IN PANEL DISCUSSION
Dr. Ligon Duncan will be part of a panel discussion with Albert Mohler (moderator), D.A. Carson, John Woodbridge, Gregory Thornbury and Jason Duesing at the Evangelical Theological Society's national meeting in Baltimore Nov. 20.

PRESIDENT'S FORUM AT RTS/ORLANDO

On Oct. 23, Dr. Don Sweeting, president of RTS/Orlando, will discuss with Zac Hicks, pastor of worship at Coral Ridge Presbyterian Church, "The Worship Pastor: A New (Old) Model for Worship Leaders." RTS/ATLANTA PASTORS APPRECIATION LUNCHEON 
Pastors and their respective pastoral teams are cordially invited to a Pastors Appreciation Luncheon on Tuesday, Nov. 5, 11:00 a.m. - 1:00 p.m. on the Atlanta campus. Dr. Robert Leslie Holmes, RTS Atlanta adjunct professor of pastoral theology, will share some encouragement and wisdom from his 40 years of pastoral ministry experience over a free catered lunch. Door prizes will be given away including an Android Tablet, restaurant gift certificates, books and more! RSVP to bhermes@rts.edu by Nov. 1. Visit RTS/Charlotte on Oct. 15.  Enjoy breakfast and then attend chapel and sit in on a class with Dr. Belcher and Dr. Anderson.  Enjoy lunch with the professors and hear from them. Attend a leadership class with Dr. Culbertson, and if you can stay late, join a class with Dr. Currid. RUM COORDINATOR VISITS RTS/ORLANDO
Dr. Rod Mays has served as the national coordinator for Reformed University Ministries, the campus ministry of the Presbyterian Church in America, for 15 years, and will step down next summer. Mays visited with Dr. Don Sweeting, president of RTS/Orlando, and will also visit with students on campus today. He is an adjunct professor of practical theology at RTS/Charlotte.

CHURCH PLANTING & DEVELOPMENT CONFERENCE 
This conference will be held Jan. 27-31 at Canterbury Retreat Center (2 miles from the RTS campus). This is an inter-denominational training event (workshops & seminar) designed to equip church planters, pastors, missionaries, and lay leaders to start, grow and multiply healthy, gospel-centered churches that result in the spiritual, social and cultural transformation of towns, cities, regions, and nations. Church leaders from more than 300 denominations, representing over 50 countries in 7 languages on 5 continents have taken this training to date.

The conference is open to all and RTS doctoral students may take it for credit. Click here for more information.

Dr. Frank E. Farrell is battling cancer. He taught church history from 1996 to 2002 at RTS/Orlando and RTS/Atlanta. His wife passed away in June of this year. LIVING BEYOND THE FRAME 
You are invited to attend an evening of song and stories about living beyond our limitations through living in the power of the gospel on Oct. 13 from 7-9:00 p.m. in the RTS/Orlando Pamplin Chapel. Dr. Jim Coffield, associate professor of counseling at RTS/Orlando and Dr. Bryce Hagedorn, associate professor of counseling at the University of Central Florida, will lead the stories and the songs will be led by singer/songwriter Andy Gullahorn.  The event is free and free childcare is available, but space is limited. WIM RETREAT
Forty women attended the RTS/Orlando Women in Ministry fall retreat at New Smyrna Beach. The theme of the weekend was “Restoring Time to Listen”  from 1 Samuel 3:10.  The women enjoyed a shrimp boil and fellowship beachside Friday night.  The RTSO president’s wife and current student, Christina Sweeting (pictured far left back row), led the group in Lectio Divina on Saturday.      

L. John Bourgeois (M.Div. '13)
John will be ordained as an associate pastor of City Church of Richmond, Va., at the end of October. He has been serving as an intern there.

Caleb Burnison (M.Div. '13)

Caleb, formerly an institutional development intern at RTS, is now serving as the stewardship coordinator for the advancement team with Pioneers. Pioneers mobilizes teams to glorify God among unreached peoples by initiating church-planting movements in partnership with local churches. His wife Emily also works for Pioneers as a missions mentor. Caleb and Emily have two young daughters, Kaylee and Abby. 

Tom Cannon (M.Div. '88)
Tom has been nominated by the permanent committee of PCA RUM to be the next national coordinator of Reformed University Fellowship (RUF). Read more here.

Gordon Duncan (MAR '05)
Gordon has recently published Family Philippians, a book designed to enable families to walk through an entire book of the Bible in 10 minutes or less per night. The family will read a portion of Scripture, read a brief explanation, answer a few questions, and then pray together. Gordon is planting a new church called Evident Grace Fellowship in the Spotyslvania/Massaponax area of Virginia. For more information about Gordon and this book, click here.  

Don Elliott (MAMFT '93)
Don serves as the pastor of Eltham Presbyterian Church in Australia. His wife Anne (MAMis '91, MAMFT '93) is in clinical practice and runs church camps for the PCV. Chancellor Ligon Duncan visited with them last month in their home.

Carol Griffiths (MAC '11)
Carol (Scriven) Griffiths is the guidance officer at Sherlin C. Bootle High School on the island of Abaco, Bahamas. She is the sole guidance counselor at the public school which has 23 professional staff members and approximately 300 students from middle to low socioeconomic homes. Carol sees her primary purpose as helping students and staff realize their full potential through an understanding of how purpose, choices and consequences are interrelated. Her vision is "Every student, equipped and empowered to fulfill their unique calling with excellence." Carol married Livingstone Griffiths on July 6. They live on Abaco, serving as "marketplace ministers" in their respective jobs.

Bill Gunter (M.Div. '00)
Bill is pastor of Redeemer Community Church since 2002. He is running as a Republican for Florida House District 36 in a special election to take place on Oct. 15. This district covers portions of Pasco County, Fla. He is married to Heather and has two children: Joshua and Taylor.  

Curtis Moore (M.Div. '98)
Curt is serving as pastor of discipleship at Willow Creek Church. He also serves the Presbyterian Church in America as the Mission to North America Disaster Response Specialist for the Gulf Coast region. He is married to Kelly. 

Andrew T. Rollo (M.Div. '12)

Taylor has been called to serve at Grace Covenant Presbyterian Church in Blacksburg, Va. He will preach for the morning service on Sunday, Nov. 3, and that evening he will be ordained at 5:30 p.m. Pastor Chris Hutchinson will preach at the ordination service. A reception will follow.

Drew is serving as director of children's ministries at Willow Creek Church in Winter Springs, Fla. 

Renfred Zepp (MAR '09)
Ren's thesis, "Covenant Theology from the Perspective of Two Puritans" has been included in the bibliography in Joel Beeke & Mark Jones' latest book, A Puritan Theology.  He is the pastor of shepherding and care at Pinewood Presbyterian Church in Middleburg, Fla.
