DR. NICOLE - PROFESSOR EMERITUS - PASSES AWAY
Just one day after his 95th birthday, Dr. Roger R. Nicole passed away on Dec. 11, 2010. He was ready to meet his Savior. Dr. Nicole was a former adjunct professor of theology at RTS/Orlando from 1989 to 2000 and emeritus beginning in 2000. Born in 1915, he was a native Swiss Reformed theologian with an M.A. from Sorbonne, a Th.D. from Gordon Divinity School and a Ph.D. from Harvard University, Dr. Nicole has long been regarded as one of the preeminent theologians in America. He is predeceased by his wife, Annette who passed away on Feb 8, 2008.

He was ready to meet his maker. As we mentioned in our previous e-letter, just a few days before his death, Dr. Nicole said, “I’m ready to go, I’m actually quite comfortable, nothing hurts, I’m not hungry. I actually thought dying was going to be a lot harder. I’m thankful to be in the hospital. Whether I die here or at the Village is inconsequential. It’s a lot more important where I lived and how. I’m not afraid of judgment because all my sins have been wiped out completely by the blood of Jesus Christ. All I look forward to is the joy of the life to come.”

His funeral was held on Dec. 15. at First Baptist Church Sweetwater in Longwood, Fla. In lieu of flowers please make a donation in Roger's name to Reformed Theological Seminary, Gordon-Conwell Theological Seminary or First Baptist Church Sweetwater, Longwood, Fla. Read his obituary here.

REMEMBERING DR. NICOLE: FROM FRIENDS OF RTS
Dear Reformed community,

I just read in the Boston Globe internet edition that Roger Nicole went to be with the Lord on Dec. 11. I did not know Dr. Nicole personally, but appreciated his strong stand for Biblical inerrancy, his warm heart for the Reformed faith, his gracious personality, and his academic achievements. May the Lord bless his memory and legacy to our churches, our students, our seminaries, and our world.

Sincerely in Christ,
Kim Batteau, minister of the Reformed Church (Liberated) of The Hague, The Netherlands

Two classes will be offered for the upcoming Spring Term:

Scripture/Theology/Anthropology (5ST508/01 ST I) taught by Dr. Derek W. H. Thomas for 3 credit hours.  This class meets on Friday evenings (7 to 9pm) and on Saturdays (8am - 4pm): Jan.  28-29, March 11-12, Apr. 15-16 and May 6-7. This is an engaging and foundational study you don’t want to miss! It is a foundational course for all of your other studies! You will learn about theological prolegomena (introduction of purpose, goals, and, theological method), doctrine of Scripture (revelation, inspiration, authority), theology proper (God, Trinity, creation, providence) and anthropology (man, Fall, sin). Our survey of doctrine will be based on the exegesis of Scripture, with continual reference to historical theology. All along we will refocus on the crucial nexus between faith and life, doctrine and practice, and endeavor to stress the importance of these doctrines for Christian thought, life, and ministry.

Apologetics (5ST530/01) taught by Dr. James Anderson for 2 credit hours. This class meets on Friday evenings (7 to 9pm) and on Saturdays (8 am - 4pm): Feb 4-5, March 4-5, and Apr. 8-9. What are the most frequently raised objections to the Christian faith? How do you answer these objections? Is there a better way to respond to these objections? In this challenging and interesting course you will engage various apologetic methodologies that will strengthen your own faith and your own ability to give answers to those objections.Contact admissions.houston@rts.edu for more information about classes scheduled for the spring semester, or click here

Hank Wilson, II (M.Div. ‘07), a US Navy chaplain working with the 5th Battalion, 11th Marines, has had a busy year of transition with his wife Linda. They have arrived at Camp Pendleton, Calif. (They were formerly stationed in Italy). Hank has been spending time in the field and training with the Marines. Linda has been getting the house set up the way she likes. But with all of the transitions taking place there is none more important than the fact that they are expecting their first child. After 17 years and tons of prayers the Lord has blessed them with the best gift they could expect over Christmas.
